Have you hear of the study done about 4 year olds being tempted by marshmellows? In the 1960's a professor at Stanford University began an experiment testing the willpower of 4 year olds. He sat them individually in front of one marshmallow. They were told that they could eat the marshmallow now, or wait fifteen minutes and they would get another marshmallow and be able to eat two. Some at it immediately, others waited for 5 minutes or so and then ate, and a few waited the 15 minutes and were able to get a second marshmallow. They followed up on the children later in life and found that ones that showed patience and perseverance to wait for the second marshmallow had more success in life than the children that desired instant gratification.

As you can see, sacrificing something you want now for a benefit that is greater later, is the higher road. Although it is difficult to do, it is not impossible.

As I was trying to flatten my belly by eating, I realized that I had to have plan and focus, sharp focus. By staying focused on healthy meals and snacks, I was able to flatten my belly, even after 5 children and a set of twins. I even was able to surpass my original weight loss goal without any exercise.

How To Actually Eat Healthier In 2016

  • Fire. Figure out the “why” and reasons for your goal to eat healthier in 2016. Is it to look better, feel better? Fire up that passion for wanting to accomplish your goals.
  • Plan. This was the most important thing I did. To effectively eat right, you need to plan at least a week ahead what you are going to cook and eat. This way you only buy the healthy food.
  • Make choices. Choose to eat your favorite food or dessert only once a week. Cut out goodies the rest of the days.
  • Lemon water. Drinking lemon tea first thing every morning was a game changer for me. It helps to combat cravings, cleanses out your digestive tract, and balances your body's ph levels.

Life is all about making choices. Remember the marshmallow experiment? Save treats and goodies to once a week and you will enjoy it more because you resisted and worked hard eating right.
