You've probably heard about it in the news as one of the hottest trending diets. Major stars like Keelan Lutz, Jessica Biel and Kristin Cavallari are on the diet and looking better than ever. So, the first question on your mind if you don't already know this is, what is the diet all about?

What Is The Paleo Diet?

Well, to start off with, word Paleo comes from the word Paleolithic – which is prehistoric period of human history dating back several thousand years. If you're having a hard time picturing it, try thinking of The Flintstones cartoon – I always get a good laugh just from thinking about it.

The diet's basic premise is that our genetics haven't changed much in the last several thousand years. Our bodies are still adapted for the same diet that our ancestors lived on – mostly . The Paleo Diet regime emphasizes natural foods while avoiding processed or artificially flavored foods.

So, where does that leave us in this modern age of carbonated drinks and processed foods?

It's real easy, we're going to get you sorted out in 3 easy steps:

  1. What Foods To Avoid (The Bad News)
  2. What Foods To Eat (The Good News)
  3. How To Get Started With Your Paleo Diet Meal Plan Today (The Great News)

1 – What Foods To Avoid? (The Bad News)

The basic list of non-approved foods to avoid is listed below, although they are not exhaustive:

  • Dairy products (butter, cheese, milk, ice cream – Bummer, I know, and the way I love ice cream)
  • Processed Meat Products
  • Candy (I love my KitKat as well, but we had to break up)
  • Sugary Fruit Juice (containing unnatural flavors, sweeteners)
  • Soft Drinks (Goodbye Dr Pepper, Adios Mountain Dew)
  • Energy Drinks (No more shots of 5-hour energy or Red Bull)
  • Grains and Legumes (Our Flintstone ancestors didn't have these in their pre-agricultural days either)

And of course, I don't have to tell you that alcohol, deli meats and Cheetos are off the menu. But just for the record, they're off the menu.

So Why Should You Get On The Paleo Diet Plan?

Picture this… Its summer, the sun is out and you're playing volleyball on the beach with your friends. Not only do you feel amazing and alive, but you look pretty awesome if I do say so myself J You've lost a ton of weight (everyone's noticed and complimented you on it), your skin looks and feels incredible, you feel healthy, and you're energy and enthusiasm is magnetically drawing people to you effortlessly… Heck, you even brushed those pearly whites twice this morning for good measure. You're on point, life is great, and you're happy, confident, and attractive.

So, what's stopping you from having such an amazing day?

A good balanced, healthy diet coupled with exercise. Sounds easy, right?

Your body is the vehicle you drive your way around life with. If you don't regularly maintain it and put in the right kind of fuel, you're going to have gunk piling up in the engine causing all sorts of problems – less power, high consumption, overheating, air conditioner / heater not working, engine stall, excessive carbon exhaust emissions, etc.

It's the same thing with your body. If you load it up with candy, processed meat, dairies, alcohol, and such, you'll have similar issues – waking up tired, little or no energy, loss of appetite, weight gain, high cholesterol, depression, infrequent/inconsistent bowel movement, autoimmune disorders, and so on.

Furthermore, you'll be further and further away from the picture of your ideal self – you know, that attractive, confident, healthy YOU that you're becoming!

I was going to save this for another article but I figured I might as well include a few tips to help you along the way:

  1. Eat when hungry, stop when full – think “sizeable portions” evenly distributed during the day
  2. Prepare healthy meals – tasty, easy to cook, and using readily available ingredients
